The Tomb of Heros…
Juan Pablo Duarte , one of the country’s founding fathers, created the flag’s original design and consulted a secret political organization, called La Trinitaria, a secret society organized into small self contained groups with secret passwords and codes.
Only the most trusted men were accepted into this group .
This organization was founded by Juan Pablo Duarte, Francisco del Rosario Sanchez, and Ramon Matias Mella, after careful consideration of the design, the organization submitted it’s approval to Juan Pablo Duarte in June 1838.
Below… The Puerta del Conde/Door of the Conde is at the end of the Conde street. Within the gate is a beautiful park with the path leading to the Tomb of Heros. Here lies the remains of some of our Dominican heros; Juan Pablo Duarte “The Father of the Country”, Sanchez and Mella remembered by these statues and the eternal flame.
I have visited these three while on an afternoon walk in the Colonial area square. A super National monument…with pools and beauty… yet with poor maintenance and deteriorating.
My family visited Dominican Republic last year on spring break, and it was one of the most beautiful places i have ever been…but then again…our family was in a preservation thingy for tourists.
